Ras Al Khaimah, UAE: Dar Al Ber Society (DABS), Ras Al Khaimah branch, ran an array of charitable and humanitarian projects, worth Dh13.3 million, in the emirate and worldwide in 2016.

A number of mosques were built and renovated, some water wells were dug, copies of the Holy Quran were printed out and distributed for free, and many other programmes were accomplished during the same period.

Abdullah Ali bin Zayed Al Falasi, Executive Director of Dar Al Ber, said the DABS branch in Ras Al Khaimah managed to collect and spend Dh2,158,877 for building a number of mosques in the UAE and worldwide.

“So many water wells were also dug around the world against Dh2,005,351, while copies of the Holy Quran, worth Dh112,948, were printed out and distributed as well.”

A variety of other charity projects, worth Dh10,049,150, were further carried out last year for the benefit of deprived and low-income people locally and abroad, he added.

“The Society assigned 26 reps who managed to collect contributions up Dh124,342 during the holy month of Ramadan, besides Dh742,875 collected by 23 other reps for the Adahi campaign, along with Dh270,000 in rents for six endowed villas.”

Al Falasi noted that Dar Al Ber in Ras Al Khaimah contributed Dh8,057,198 to 2,544 low-income families last year. “The Society distributed the collected cash Zakat or alms to eligible families, let alone fixed monthly aids that covered study fees, surgeries, medicine, rents, electricity bills, and air tickets for released foreign inmates.”

Ali Al Shei, manager of the RAK branch, said they spent Dh2,488,100 as study fees for 623 poor school and varsity students, Dh1,057,900 as rents for 425 families, Dh1,086,302 as medicine for 268 patients, and Dh223,073 as electricity bills for 77 families.

“These are apart from cash allowances, worth Dh1,820,500, for 638 people, fixed monthly aids of Dh661,570 for 40 people, summer project of Dh60,280 for 47 people, Eid clothes of Dh103,250 for 243 cases, administrative allowances of Dh229,233 for 16 people, and other allowances of Dh326,990 for 140 people.”

Al Shehi added that they ran a variety of humanitarian activities last year, spanning the Zayed Humanitarian Work Day during which 300 free meals were contributed in collaboration with a number of entities.

“We also paid visits to the seniors of the Obaidullah Hospital for the Elderly, organised various functions for the orphans, honoured excellent teachers, celebrated the Universal Children's Day and the International Health Day, and distributed healthy foods for the inmates on the International Food Day.”

The Society further marked the Teacher’s Day as well as the National Day, Al Shehi elaborated. “We also distributed blood pressure gadgets, organised a ‘Plant a Smile’ function to please sick children, ran an exhibition for productive families, and distributed 32 foodstuff baskets for eligible families, and organised other charity functions.”
