Ras Al Khaimah, UAE: With so many expatriates of all nationalities willingly converting to Islam, one may wonder about the reasons behind their conversion, particularly in the holy month of Ramadan.

Some new Muslims, whom Dar Al Ber Society (DABS) has enlightened about Islam and helped to convert, attributed their decisions to become Muslims to the tolerance and equal treatment they received here.

“The UAE, founded on a set of unwavering values and principles, like tolerance, moderation, peaceful coexistence, genuine understanding of religion, and equal treatment between Muslims and non-Muslims, have led us to Islam,” they said.

Ali Al Shehi, Dar Al Ber Manager in Ras Al Khaimah, said the UAE prudent leadership spares no effort to promote and spread the spirit of giving in every nook and corner.

“Dar Al Ber is committed to support all segments of the Society and enlighten non-Muslims about Islam in view of the pioneering ‘Year of Giving’ initiative launched by the President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.”

The Islamic Information Centre (IIC) of Dar Al Ber has recently run a special ceremony for 120 new Muslim students under its sponsorship at the Classic Restaurant and Al Baz Wedding Hall, he added.

“The Centre, inaugurated four years back here in Ras Al Khaimah, started with only 14 new Muslim students who have grown to 120 now, and those go through daily Quran classes and training workshops to develop their religious awareness.”

The Suhur function, organised under the theme: ‘Banquet of giving in month and year of giving for people of giving’, saw the presence of Waleed Liwad, IIC Manger, and Khalid Al Tamimi, Dar Al Ber Media Adviser.

Also present were Mohamed Al Baz, owner of the Classic Restaurant and Al Baz Wedding Hall, along with a big number of officials and new Muslims from different nationalities.

Waleed Liwad said that more expatriates felt like to know more about Islam in the holy month of Ramadan. “Six of these have been touched by the merciful teachings of Islam, and converted to Islam on a single day.”

One of the new converts, present at the RAK ceremony, said that his wife was a great help in his journey to Islam. Another one said that he used to drive 45km from the Wadi Cove every day to the Centre to learn the Quran until he recently moved closer to the Khuzam area.
